In fact, its playful es sence resonated all around the isle. Five years and several other hip track later, the gutsy and playful fund o f O m ar has only gotten hipper. For Pleasure, O m a r’s rousing dom estic debut, show s ju st how smart, chic and individual his m usic has become. I hese days o f course, we know who O m ar Ly e Lo o k is: One o f the most distinctive and versatile artists o f the day, a guy who can instantly fill the dance floor with his lim ber contempo soul. A fter a couple o f ste llar indie releases in B rita in , records by the way that were so im pressive m ajor labels began their Omar-hunt almost im m ediately - the singer’s esthetic has blossomed to fruition. Fo r Pleasure is instantly memo rable and singular in today's m usic a burgeoning industrial area. H o o d stage I he festival has also committed itse lf to education A Mt. Hood Fe s tival of Ja z z Instrumental W orkshop is back after a year’s hiatus, sched uled Aug. 6-12 at Le w is and C la rk C ollege. One role for a ja z z festival is to be a “ hangout” for m usicians and the Mt. Hood event com plies adm irably. O m a r’s ranging interests, ja zz, soul and blues all get equal props in this w orld - create a track-by-track diversity. T h is isn’t a hit-p lus-filler outing. For Pleasure is a record yo u ’ll keep spinning 'til the finale, when the k ille r syncopation o f the title track fades into the airand your ass is tired o f shaking. M onica is a fourteen- year old singer blessed with a vocal ab ility most adult performers would envy.
